Apple kills 1st generation iPhone (or is about to)

apple-iphone

In the last Special Event, Apple has stated that most features of iPhone OS 4 would work on 3G and everything else in the 3GS. There was no mention whatsoever regarding the 1st generation iPhone.

Recently, Steve Jobs replied to a customer email inquiring about support or updates for the 1st gen iPhone in the future. And Steve’s reply was “Sorry, no.”

It is very clear we are not gonna get anymore updates for the 1st generation iPhone. All developments would be for the 3G and 3GS.

With that said, there is a possibility that even OS 4 won’t run on the 1st gen. If that’s the case, 3.1.3 would be the last version of its OS. We can only know for certain once the release of OS 4 hits iTunes.

The Official Twitter for iPhone App: Twitter is now the proud owner of Tweetie!

Evan Williams, CEO of Twitter has announced that Twitter has come to an agreement with Atebits (a.k.a. Loren Brichter) to acquire the famous twitter iPhone app ‘Tweetie’.

We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve entered into an agreement with Atebits (aka Loren Brichter) to acquire Tweetie, a leading iPhone Twitter client. Tweetie will be renamed Twitter for iPhone and made free (currently $2.99) in the iTunes AppStore in the coming weeks. Loren will become a key member of our mobile team that is already having huge impact with device makers and service providers around the world. Loren’s work won the 2009 Apple Design Award and we will eventually launch Twitter for iPad with his help. Read more on the Twitter Blog

This is good news for those of you who haven’t yet downloaded Tweetie. The former $2.99 app will be made free soon, which in my opinion will acquire more users than ever. Especially now, it is the official iPhone twitter App. In addition, they will be releasing Twitter for iPad as well. The coming weeks should be very exciting with the new updates from the Twitter team and  Loren Brichter. We are about to see the ultimate Twitter App!

WordPress 3.0 Beta1 is Out!

wordpresslogo

It’s finally available for download folks! WordPress 3.0 Beta 1

This is an early beta. This means there are a few things we’re still finishing. We wanted to get people testing it this weekend, so we’re releasing it now rather than waiting another week until everything is finalized and polished. There’s a ton of stuff going on in 3.0, so this time we’re giving you a list of things to check out, so that we can make sure people are testing all the things that need it.

You Should Know:

  • The custom menus system (Appearance > Menus) is not quite finished. In Beta 2, the layout will be different and a bunch of the functionality will be improved, but we didn’t want to hold things up for this one screen. You can play with making custom menus, and report bugs if you find them, but this is not how the final screen will look/work, so don’t get attached to it.
  • The merge! Yes, WordPress and WordPress MU have merged. This does not mean that you can suddenly start adding a bunch of new blogs from within your regular WordPress Dashboard. If you’re interested in testing the Super Admin stuff associated with multiple sites, you’ll need some simple directions to get started.
  • We’re still fiddling with a few small things in the UI, as we were focused on getting the more function-oriented code finished first. For example, we’re getting a new icon for the Super Admin section.

Things to test:

  • Play with the new default theme, Twenty Ten, including the custom background and header options.
  • Custom Post Type functionality has been beefed up. It’s really easy to add new types, so do that and see how it looks!
  • WordPress MU users should test the multiple sites functionality to make sure nothing broke during the merge.

This is exciting, but I think I am gonna let the testers do their jobs first and let the devs fix the bugs. I do not want to take a risk.

Custom Post Types in WordPress 3.0

A great blog post by Konstantin Kovshenin about Custom Post Types in WordPress 3.0

In version 3.0 the developers of WordPress introduce the custom post types. I’m not sure whether it’ll be solely built into the API or also displayed as a GUI somewhere in the settings, but it doesn’t require too much coding skills to add a couple via your functions.php or a perhaps a plugin.

The Official 2010 Formula One Safety Car

When the new Formula-1 season gets underway in Manama/Bahrain (12-14 March 2010), it will mark the debut of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG F1 Safety Car - the most spectacular and powerful Official F1 Safety Car of all time. The job of the new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, which will be launched on 27 March 2010, is to ensure maximum safety in Formula 1. The “gullwing” model replaces the SL63 AMG, which was used as the Official F1 Safety Car in 2008 and 2009. As in the last two years, the C63 AMG Estate will be used as the Official F1 Medical Car for the coming season.

“Together with the entire AMG Team, I am very proud that the new SLS AMG is the official F1 safety car. I’m sure all Mercedes and AMG fans will be excited to see the gullwing model together with the new Mercedes GP Petronas Team at the F1 circuits,” says Volker Mornhinweg, Chief Executive Officer of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

From March 2010, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG F1 Safety Car will be deployed whenever hazardous situations such as accidents or bad weather endanger normal racing. The SLS AMG, piloted by Bernd Mayländer (38, from Germany), will be on standby in the pit lane throughout the entire race. When radioed by Race Control, the former DTM driver and his co-driver, FIA man Pete Tibbetts (44, from the UK) will take to the track at the head of the field in order to guide the Formula-1 race cars safely around the circuit.
